Accringtons’ lost shops. Nowadays shop owners can only dream of Broadway being this busy! Back in the 1960s, this would have been a typical Saturday. With shoppers and cinema-goers struggling for space.

Accringtons’ lost shops, It’s looking like a ghost town.

The Odean cinema, later the Classic, closed in 1990, Consequently, there was no cinema in the town until 2002. Other casualties include chain stores.

Accrington has lost chain stores including, Woolworths and Marks and Spencer. In fact, the old Woolworths store has changed hands several times.

Recently, the pound shop on Union street also gave up on the town. Covid has not helped, and maybe a new approach is needed for the town centre? Comment below.
