In the last reported week, to the 1st of January, new Covid-19 cases in Hyndburn, have risen from 806 to 1473. The first number was for the last week in December.
Additionally, more than 20 NHS trusts have declared a major incident. Blackburn is not in this condition as of today. However several Northwest Trusts are, Including Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, and Blackpool teaching hospitals NHS trusts.
The Prime minister’s official spokesman said:
“I think my understanding on critical incidents, obviously the numbers do vary… it’s worth understanding that critical incidents can last, in some certain circumstances, a matter of hours, a morning or afternoon, a day some of them can last longer than that.
“So they’re not a good indicator necessarily of how the NHS is performing.”
Staff shortages due to Covid, are running at 10%, at a time when more admissions are occurring.
He said the NHS was “stretched like never before”.
The Prime Mister stated that plan B restrictions were “helping to take the edge off the Omicron wave”
