Flood warnings for Accrington removed on New Year’s Eve.

Accrington Alerts Baxenden

The environment agency has removed flood warnings that were in place in Accrington and Hyndburn.

Which areas are a flood risk in Hyndburn?

There are three rivers that flow through Hyndburn, the Calder, Hyndburn and Hyndburn Brook. The river Hyndburn flows under the centre of Accrington where it is culverted. Church could also be affected.

Woodnook water flows from Baxenden towards Accrington and is also a flood warning area. Moreover, there are several brooks that flow from Oswaldtwistle moor into the town itself.

Finally, White Ash brook and the low lying areas to the East of the canal, near Accrington Golf Couse are prone to flooding.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and we would ask you not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.” Environment agency advise, in case of flooding.
